James has been unemployed for five months now. In those five months we have learned so much about making it or making due. It has been an amazing experience that has inspired us both. James has been praying and he has come to the conclusion that although he will continue to look for full time employment he is going to begin making the upcycle kitchen sets, and household accessories that he has made from rescue and salvage, for resale.
He plans to begin just on the weekends on the outside edges of the Webb Road Flea Market and then depending on the Lords leading and the success of the venture perhaps some local craft fairs and events. I told him I would blog about it hoping some of you (although , blogspots says there aren't any of you) might read it and check him out. I know the quality of the products. I just want to tell you about the neater aspects of the "stuff".
The Kitchen sets are made from reclaimed furniture. Some of it is from craigslist, in the free section others are from an outlet that is the last stop on the Goodwill line before it would end up in the land fill, still some are from friends and family that could be purchased inexpensively. He starts there and then goes on an odyssey looking for just the right cast offs for the fixtures. I am amazed with what he comes up with and how beautiful these children's toys are at the finish. Even the paint is reclaimed, he used left overs from our kitchen for our girls.
I have even gotten in on the act , making extra swiffer pads from my t shirt yarn stash ( t shirt yarn in cotton yarn made from reclaimed shirts.. ones that are beyond wear or repair are cut and stretched into yarn). I have some denim placemats in the works too.
I think the "dream' here is the brick and mortor shop that I have waited on , but this is a great started and in has redeemed James purpose and given him some means to provide which is SUCH a blessing. I can't help but believe that the Lord is behind this.
On another note.... if you are interested in one of the kitchens drop an email to redemptionjkuffner@yahoo.com .
James is doing custom orders, so just tell him what you are looking for. Is it modern... country tell him the size and shape you are looking for and maybe colors...most importantly your budget... what do you want to spend on it???. he will do his best to accommodate you. The website is still being upgraded so you are more than welcome to check it out but note that he is still adding content. http://www.re-demption.com
